Looking for a 2024 summer hit? Charlotte and Simone release "Dopamine"

What do you get when you throw great songwriting, two metal queens and lots of ex-delainers into one pot? Exactly - a great summer hit for metalheads. With "Dopamine", the third single from her third solo album "The Obsession", ex-Delain frontwoman Charlotte Wessels has created a catchy tune - also thanks to the support of Epica frontwoman and friend Simone Simons. The song, which Charlotte's Patreon fans have known for a long time in its original version, immediately appealed to Simone. "She wrote to me saying how much she liked the song. When we were working on the album version of the song, it just made sense to ask her if she would sing along to this track. And I'm so glad she agreed," Charlotte explains the beginnings of the collaboration. And the two friends proved to have a lucky hand - but listen for yourself:

"Dopamine" is about the numbness caused by SSRIs that Charlotte herself had to go through when she was taking sertraline, a type of antidepressant. "Although the medication really helped, there were so many side effects that I had never heard of. This song is about some of them, and although it feels vulnerable to disclose the experience, I hope it helps to break down the shame and taboo around the subject," explains the Dutchwoman.

Musically, "Dopamine" has undergone a major transformation. What began as an EDM demo for a collaboration with a dance duo that never materialized became an acoustic "Song of the Month" on Patreon, which then underwent a massive overhaul when it was rearranged. "The new band version is an absolute banger, and the beautiful guest vocals by Simone round off the song," Charlotte emphasizes.
