Simone Johanna Maria Simons (born January 17, 1985, full name Simone Johanna Maria Simons) is a renowned Dutch singer, best known as the frontwoman of the symphonic metal band Epica.

Simone's journey into the world of music began at a young age. Growing up in a musical family, she developed a passion for singing at an early age. She received formal training in classical music and jazz, which gave her a solid foundation in vocal technique. This diverse background later contributed to the unique and versatile style that characterizes her.

Start with Epica 2002

In 2002, at the age of 17, Simone joined Epica, a band founded by guitarist and composer Mark Jansen. This collaboration marked the beginning of a remarkable career. Epica quickly gained recognition for their distinctive sound, which combined symphonic metal with elements of classical music, gothic and progressive metal. Simone's powerful and soulful vocals became a defining element of Epica's sonic identity.

The debut album "The Phantom Agony", released in 2003, showcased Simone's ability to seamlessly switch between operatic and rock vocal styles. The success of the album laid the foundation for Epica's rise in the symphonic metal scene.

Work with other artists

Simone's vocal abilities and stage presence played a crucial role in the success of subsequent albums such as "Consign to Oblivion" (2005), "The Divine Conspiracy" (2007) and "Design Your Universe" (2009). The latter marked a significant point in Epica's career and received widespread acclaim for its ambitious sound and poignant lyrics.

Apart from her work with Epica, Simone has collaborated with various artists. She lent her voice to tracks by bands such as Kamelot, Ayreon and Primal Fear, showing her versatility beyond the symphonic metal genre.

Solo album Vermillion

After more than 20 successful years with Epica, Simone announced her first solo album in May 2024. "Vermillion", which was created in collaboration with Arjen Lucassen from "Ayreon", will be released on August 23, 2024. Ire's ability to reach emotional depths with her operatic voice will also play a central role in "Vermillion". The album promises to be a new milestone in Simone's career.

Balance between family and music

Simone's personal life underwent a significant change in 2013 when she gave birth to her first child, a son named Vincent. She continued her career in the metal scene, balancing motherhood and a demanding music career.

Epica's evolution continued with albums such as "The Quantum Enigma" (2014) and "The Holographic Principle" (2016), showcasing the band's ability to innovate while staying true to their roots. Simone's vocal performances remained a central element and delighted audiences worldwide.

Role model for other women

Beyond her musical achievements, Simone is celebrated for her captivating and charismatic stage presence.

Simone Simons symbolizes the empowerment of women in metal, breaking stereotypes and combining strength and elegance.
