We report on women in the metal business every day. We would therefore like to use the International Day of Struggle for Equality and Women's Rights to show you good reasons for an actual (music) matriarchy.

1. better decisions

Music companies (labels for example), in which more women are in management positions, are more innovative and are better able to respond to the needs of their target groups. This leads to stronger market development and rising sales figures. In the music industry, greater diversity in decision-making bodies could lead to greater success. This is because companies with a high proportion of women generally perform better. Net sales figures increase (McKinsey study) when more women are involved in decision-making at board level.

2. more emotional control - fewer outbursts of anger

Contrary to all prejudices against women, it is actually the case that they have better control over their emotions than men - and are also better able to categorize them. They are better at recognizing what triggers anger and can therefore keep it in check or eliminate it. This ability to control emotions could be particularly valuable in the music industry when it comes to managing artists, who are often under a lot of pressure. Conflicts in collaboration with labels or at live events could be defused more easily or would not arise in the first place.

3. promoting equality and empathy

In systems with female leadership, there is often a stronger focus on empathy, care and justice. These values could lead to a fairer and less hierarchical society in which the needs of all people are taken into account. We know how male-dominated the music business is - especially in metal. More female leadership would be really beneficial here.

4. strengthening social ties

Matriarchal societies tend to promote closer family and community ties. Responsibility for the care and well-being of the community could lead to greater cooperation and social cohesion. Every industry - including the music industry - could use a little more of this.

5. promotion of cooperation instead of competition

Cooperation instead of comparing tails. More emphasis is placed on cooperation and working together. Compared to the competitive, patriarchal systems, this could lead to fewer conflicts and more harmony (and also more success, see above).

6. better representation of women and minorities

As women themselves belong to the marginalized groups, there would be a greater understanding here. Decisions would be made more for the benefit of all, which could lead to a more balanced and inclusive society/industry. According to a report by Women in Music (WIM), women are still underrepresented in many areas of the music industry, especially in leadership positions. For example, women make up only 23% of executives in the top 10 music labels. However, if women are more involved in decision-making, they can help create a more inclusive and diverse music landscape. More women in the music industry could also promote the representation of other minority groups.

7 The Big Picture: Environmental awareness and sustainability

Now it may be getting esoteric. But those who can give life have a different view of and a deeper connection to nature, a greater awareness of the environment. This could lead to a greater focus on ecological responsibility and more sustainable decisions being prioritized - including when planning tours or choosing clubs.

8. women would not systematically oppress men

Patriarchy is based, among other things, on the exploitation (care work and co.) of women and other marginalized groups. Women in power would ensure that there would finally be equal rights and actual equality. Men would not need to be afraid, nothing would be taken away from them, but new options would be opened up.

We know the matriarchy wouldn't be perfect! But it would be worth a try! And now!
