Dutch symphonic metal band Epica has released its spookiest music video to date for the single “The Ghost in Me (Danse Macabre)”. In collaboration with the popular amusement park De Efteling, a visually impressive work was created that perfectly captures the atmosphere of the new attraction “Danse Macabre”. The collaboration coincides perfectly with the Halloween season, as the attraction opens on October 31.
The making of the video
The music video was filmed directly in front of and inside the new “Danse Macabre” attraction and reflects the spooky excitement of the park. “Every child in the Netherlands knows the magic of De Efteling,” says Coen Janssen, keyboardist of Epica. “The collaboration with the most beautiful theme park in the world is a dream come true! As a boy, I was immediately fascinated by Saint-Saëns' 'Danse Macabre' as the soundtrack for the Spookslot. When De Efteling announced their plans for the new ghost attraction, our symphonic elements fitted perfectly with the 'spooky' side of metal.”
Behind the scenes
The music video shows Epica in a world where shadows dance and the afterlife whispers. Fans can discover the “Epica Gravestone” hidden in the video - a special highlight for attentive viewers. “De Efteling fully supported our vision and provided us with the storyline for the new attraction. This allowed us to write texts that fit perfectly with the fantastic narrative and even add a new chapter,” adds Janssen.
