"Wireless": Within Temptation gives a first taste of the new album

In the band's history spanning over 25 years, Within Temptation has never been truly "quiet," and these days are no exception. After performing as the special guest for Iron Maiden on their North American tour in 2022 and kicking off their eagerly anticipated "Worlds Collide Tour" – a co-headlining tour with Evanescence in Europe, where they sold almost 200,000 tickets – 2023 is said to be an even bigger year for Within Temptation, according to the label.

Their brand-new single "Wireless" marks the beginning of the countdown to the highly anticipated eighth studio album, set to be released later this year – heralding a new era in the band's history. "An era in which they maintain their DNA but further expand their celebrated sound with powerful riffs, modern breaks, and epic choruses," as announced in the official press release. And this is what this new era sounds like:

Lyrically, the band doesn't shy away from addressing a range of important political and social issues, and the song takes aim at those hungry for war and turmoil, manipulating and controlling the media. Unsurprisingly, clear parallels to Russia can be found in the visualizer. "'Wireless' is a song about a soldier going off to war, convinced he is fighting for a good cause. He is indoctrinated by the media controlled by the government and believes that upon his return, he will be welcomed as a savior, only to discover that he has been used, and people see him as a brutal conqueror instead. He finds himself on the wrong side, and his life, along with the lives of many others, is deceived and destroyed," comments frontwoman Sharon den Adel.
