The Metal Festival Summer 2024 – Are you ready?

Got your studs polished and boots cleaned? Ready for 36°C in the shade, mud up to your ankles, and rocking around the clock? Summer in Germany has a lot in store for you when it comes to metal. We’ve taken a closer look at the line-ups for Full Force (Saxony-Anhalt), Rockharz (Ballenstedt, Harz district), Wacken Open Air (Schleswig-Holstein), and Summer Breeze (Dinkelsbühl, Ansbach district).

The “City of Iron,” Ferropolis, will once again be home to numerous metal fans – at least for four days. This year, the industrial monument site will be headlined by Architects, Dropkick Murphys, and Five Finger Death Punch – unfortunately, no Dark Divas.

However, unlike last year, bands like As December Falls, Make Them Suffer, Scowl, Future Palace, As Everything Unfolds (with Charlie Rolfe), Cage Fight, Dying Wish, and the all-girl band Crypta will slightly raise the female presence.

Also in Saxony-Anhalt, in Ballenstedt in the Harz district, the next metal extravaganza will take place exactly ten days later. The Ballenstedt airfield serves as the location for this over 30-year-old metal festival. Scheduled for arrival this year are the following divas and their bands: Amaranthe, Draconian, Schandmaul, Van Canto, Avatarium, League Of Distortion, Brothers of Metal, Vogelfrey, Storm Seeker, and Unleash The Archers.

Wacken, Schleswig-Holstein, a village with less than 2,000 inhabitants, will once again be home to about 70,000 festival-goers. Known as W:O:A – and “Woah!” indeed is the estrogen level on stage this year. With Ankor, Dragonforce, Vogelfrey, Guapa, As Everything Unfolds, Future Palace, Asagraum, Liv Kristine, The Baboon Show, Asrock, Feuerschwanz, Embryonic Autopsy, Girlschool, Kupfergold, Ignea, Baroness, Unleash The Archers, Xandria, and Spiritbox, 19 Dark Diva acts will be performing.

Additionally, the Metal Battle, featuring Dark Diva Jeļena Kaļniša and Varang Nord, celebrates its 20th anniversary.

And Wacken Open Air wouldn’t be Wacken Open Air if it hadn’t sold out in record time again. 4.5 hours, that’s it. However, you can still get on the waiting list.

The grand finale: 20 metal bands with female members at the Summer Breeze Festival. From the small town of Dinkelsbühl in Bavaria, shuttle buses will take you directly to the festival grounds. There, you’ll be greeted by Feuerschwanz, Subway To Sally, Myrkur, Brothers Of Metal, Warkings, Arcona, Burning Witches, Crypta, Svalbard, Ankor, Kupfergold, Venues, Escuela Grind, Hand Of Juno, The Baboon Show, Ignea, Delain, Spiritbox, Future Palace, and Tatiana Shmayluk with her band Jinjer.
