One Last Time: Svalbard Say Good Bye
After 15 years as a band, Svalbard have announced that 2026 will be their final year. But before they part ways, they’ve planned a series of farewell tours.
30. May 2025
After careful consideration, Svalbard have decided to end their career together in 2026. However, before that happens, they want to say a proper goodbye to their fans. A final UK tour is scheduled for November 2025, followed by a farewell EU tour, a tour in Japan, and additional selected farewell shows in 2026.
Looking Back on 15 Years of Music
Over the course of their 15-year career, Svalbard have released four studio albums, three EPs, and various split records. Their sound has always been a blend of shoegaze, post-hardcore, black metal, and other influences. Guitarist and vocalist Serena Cherry emphasizes: “We never wanted to make music that was easy to categorize, and I’m proud that we’ve always stayed true to ourselves musically and never let genre rules limit our creativity.”
Serena’s Farewell Words to the Fans
The frontwoman shared a personal message with fans: “From the moment we founded Svalbard in 2011, all we wanted to do was play loud and perform live. Every single moment has been exciting for us—from DIY squat shows to major metal festivals across Europe. I think we’ll always feel a sense of disbelief at what our little loud band from Bristol was able to achieve.”
She expressed her gratitude for the fans’ support: “The support we’ve received over the years as a band is something I’ll carry in my heart forever. It’s a testament to the openness of the metal community that our sound and our openness were embraced with open arms. I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported Svalbard—it’s been an incredible journey, and we couldn’t have done it without you.”
