With “Ode To The West Wind”, ex-Delain frontwoman Charlotte Wessels releases a dark and powerful single in which she collaborates with Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy. The song is heavily inspired by Percy Shelley's poem of the same name, which explores the irrepressible power of nature and the poet's legacy. Wessels explains: “Many of our songs together are based on classic poetry, and ‘Ode To The West Wind’ is a continuation of that journey.”

A music video with a dark message

In the music video for the new single, Wessels picks up on Shelley's themes and depicts the impact of humanity on nature. Iconic works of art such as Caspar David Friedrich's “Wanderer above the Sea of Fog” and Raphael's cherubs from the Sistine Madonna are reinterpreted here - soiled and covered in waste. “We wanted to pick up on the theme of environmental pollution and have restaged well-known images - the angels are wearing wings made of garbage, everything is soaked in toxic waste,” says Wessels.

The new album: A personal journey

The Obsession, released this Friday, marks Wessels' first traditional full-band solo album. Together with former Delain members and other musicians, she creates a sound that is heavier and more complex than her previous works. The album is characterized by personal challenges, especially her experiences with obsessive thoughts, as she herself says: “The album tells a very personal story. Many of the songs are inspired by my personal struggles with OCD.”

With “Ode To The West Wind”, Charlotte Wessels delivers another powerful single that makes fans curious about the album and gives an insight into her artistic development.
