Sabina Hirtz

Sabina Hirtz (born December 27, 1963 in Aachen, divorced Classen) is a German thrash metal singer and TV presenter. She was one of the few women in thrash metal, particularly in the 1980s, and is considered one of the most important women in the metal scene, especially due to her activities in the band Holy Moses. She is known for her extremely raw vocal style.

Sabina Hirtz grew up with two younger siblings in Aachen. She got to know bands such as The Sweet, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Motörhead through her 15-year-old uncle Karl, her father's younger brother. As a teenager, she was also a regular viewer of the ZDF television show Disco with presenter Ilja Richter, where she sat in front of the television set with a microphone to record the songs played there on a cassette recorder, which was formative for Sabina during her musical socialization. Together with her then boyfriend and later husband Andy Classen, she played Uriah Heep and Black Sabbath covers in a band called Disaster. Shortly afterwards, in 1981, Andy Classen left Disaster and became a member of Holy Moses. During a rehearsal in December 1981, singer Iggy was kicked out of the band and Sabina took his place.

After divorcing her husband Andy Classen, with whom she remained friends despite the separation, Sabina took a break with Holy Moses in 1992 and founded Temple of the Absurd. After two albums, the band disbanded in 2000 and Holy Moses reformed at the same time. In February 2023, Classen announced that Holy Moses was disbanding after 43 years of existence following a tour for their last record.
