Māra Lisenko is a Latvian singer-songwriter. She is known as the founder of the band Karmafree and has fronted the death metal band MĀRA since 2018, which disbanded in mid-2023.
Māra Lisenko is a Latvian singer-songwriter. She is known as the founder of the band Karmafree and has fronted the death metal band MĀRA since 2018, which disbanded in mid-2023. She mainly practices growling, but is also able to sing clearly or even lyrically thanks to her diverse vocal techniques.
She studied Popular Music Performance/Vocals at Thames Valley University (Vocaltech), London, UK and has participated in seminars, masterclasses and studied privately with the "Queen Of The Scream" Melissa Cross, Rockstar Vocal Coach Mark Baxter, "Death Metal Phonetician" Enrico H. Di Lorenzo and "Sepultura" singer Derrick Green.
Māra loves vocal covers and has received great feedback from bands she has covered. Her YouTube channel now has 1.7 million views and counting. She is also an active social media content creator, and has recorded several viral metal vocal videos on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube.
She received the award for best female vocalist at the Latvian Metal Music Awards 2018 and 2 awards for best album with her band MĀRA.
