Heidi Parviainen (born March 8, 1979 in Espoo) is a Finnish singer and songwriter. She is best known as the lead singer of the Finnish symphonic metal band Amberian Dawn, which she was a member of from 2006 to 2012. Her voice is soprano.

Childhood and youth

After taking lessons at a music school from a very early age and also receiving musical encouragement at elementary school, Heidi Parviainen began taking piano lessons at the age of 11. She took classical singing lessons at the age of 14 and also sang in choirs and ensembles.

Musical career

She first came into contact with metal music in 1997 when she was asked by some classmates who had formed a death metal band called Agonia if she would like to participate as a singer in the production of an EP. Some time later, she joined the band as a keyboardist and backing vocalist. Shortly afterwards, the band changed its name to Iconofear. After Heidi Parviainen decided to become the lead singer, she remained with Iconofear until 2006.

In the summer of 2006, she joined the Finnish symphonic metal band Amberian Dawn, which was looking for a female singer. The debut album River of Tuoni was released on January 30, 2008. This was followed by three more albums as well as three European tours and appearances at various festivals.

On November 9, 2012, it was announced that Heidi Parviainen was leaving the band by mutual agreement.

On December 8, 2012, Parviainen announced that she was starting a new musical project under the title Dark Sarah.

Guest appearances

Heidi Parviainen has appeared as a guest vocalist for the Finnish metal bands Eternal Tears of Sorrow (2009) and Ensiferum (2012).
