Amy grew up in a musical family. Her father was John Lee, the singer of a well-known cover band called "The Hard Luck Band." Because Amy's father worked in radio, the family moved frequently, living in places like Kansas City, Missouri, and West Palm Beach, Florida. When Amy was six years old, her younger sister Bonnie passed away, to whom she later dedicated the two songs "Hello" and "Like You."

In May 2007, Amy married Josh Hartzler and took his last name. They welcomed a son together in July 2014.

Making Waves in the Music World

At just 13 years old, the inexperienced Amy Lee founded her band, Evanescence. During a summer camp in Little Rock, she met 14-year-old Ben Moody, who later became her guitarist. With Evanescence, Lee achieved breakthrough success as a singer. At the time, she was one of the few women to find success as the lead vocalist of a mainstream metal rock band. The band's debut album was released in March 2003 and made a significant impact. "Fallen" won two Grammy Awards in 2004.

In January 2014, Amy Lee sued her record label, Wind-Up Records, for unpaid royalties. In March, she announced that the band was now independent. In August 2014, the singer released her first solo album, "Aftermath," for the film "War Story," collaborating with cellist Dave Eggar.

"Bring Me To Life" - Over 1 Billion Views on YouTube

"Bring Me To Life," released in 2003, is by far Evanescence's most popular song. Amy dedicates the song to her husband and, as she says, her biggest fan, Josh Hartzler. The therapist has "brought her back to life" several times, according to Amy. The song has been awarded five gold and eleven platinum records worldwide, certifying sales of over 5,032,500 units in total.

Since 2005, Amy Lee has been the national spokesperson for the Epilepsy Foundation in the USA. After her brother's death in 2018, who was affected by the disease, Amy founded "Out of the Shadows." Her goal is to raise awareness about epilepsy.
